Take the Internet Home With You is a hotspot lending program, provided free of charge by the Garnet A. Wilson Public Library, in partnership with the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio (FAO) and T-Mobile. The program allows library card holders to check out a mobile hotspot device and connect to the internet from almost anywhere! With the hotspot, patrons can connect their wireless enabled device, such as a laptop, smartphone, tablet, or even a smart TV, to the internet. The hotspot device works in any area covered by T-Mobile service.
The Garnet A. Wilson Public Library lends Wi-Fi Hotspots to Garnet A. Wilson Public Library cardholders in good standing with all of our sharing consortium partners (no fines or overdue items) who are 18 years of age or older. Only one Hotspot device checkout is permitted per card, per household, for a period of three (3) weeks, with one (1) renewal maximum, pending no holds by other patrons are present. Hotspots are available for checkout at the circulation desk of any branch. Devices can NOT be returned via the book drop, and must be BROUGHT INSIDE any library branch and returned to a library staff member, who will verify that all components of the hotspot are present. Any patron that returns the device in the book drop will be charged a $10 fine. The hotspot will not be considered returned until all components are verified by a staff member.
Overdue Hotspot devices will be deactivated at closing on the day the device is due and the patron account will be blocked until returned. Overdue fines will accrue at a cost of $2.50 per day, for the device or any missing components, up to the maximum replacement cost of the device equaling $100. When a hold for the device is filled, patrons will have two (2) business days from the time of notification of availability to check out the device. After such time, the hold will be forfeited by the patron and the device will move on to the next person in line.
Patrons checking out the device must present their library card, provide photo identification, and sign a user agreement to obtain the device prior to each checkout. The patron must also abide by Garnet A. Wilson Public Library policies, assume responsibility for the device, and is liable for any damage to it or its accessories while in their possession. Unlawful use of the internet is strictly prohibited. Patrons assume all legal ramifications if the usage violates federal law which may also result in the loss of library borrowing privileges. Parents/guardians are responsible for the use of the Hotspot and internet usage by minors. The library is held harmless from any direct or indirect losses, damages or liabilities related to the use of the hotspot while in the possession of the patron.
Users will be responsible for charging the device prior to usage if necessary. User experience can vary by location. The library is not responsible for deficient internet connection while using the device. If experiencing connection difficulties, try moving the device to different locations; for example, by a window or on the other side of the house. If difficulties continue, please call the library and staff will assist as much as possible. The library is not responsible for personal information shared over the internet or for information or websites accessed.
