4.4.1 Library Cards- Registration and Use

All patrons wishing to borrow library materials must be registered with the Garnet A. Wilson Public Library of Pike County and have a library card. A patron may have only one library card. Educator Cards (see policy 4.4.2) are an exception.

Registration includes completing an application form; providing photo identification to verify name and current mailing address; and signature accepting responsibility for borrowed materials. Patrons who do not carry photo identification due to religious beliefs may supply a piece of mail and some other form of name verification (birth certificate, social security card, etc.)

If an applicant is a minor child under 16 years of age, the signature of a parent or legal guardian is required to accept responsibility for borrowed materials.

A library card or photo ID for registered patrons should be presented in order to borrow library materials (see policy 4.4.3 for exception).

Displaced Teen cards:

Homeless or neglected youth between the ages of 12-18 may apply for a library card that allows the checkout of 5 items (DVDs excluded). Lost or damaged items do not require repayment of materials, but instead limit the number of items you are allowed to borrow. After one (1) year, checkout limit resets to 5 items.
