Employees understand that their employment, hours, and compensation by the Garnet A. Wilson Public Library is entirely “at will,” which means none are guaranteed for any fixed or definite period of time. Therefore, this employment relationship, hours, and compensation* can be modified or terminated, with or without cause, and with or without prior notice at any time, at the option of the Library. Likewise, the employee can terminate his or her employment at any time, with or without cause or notice. Policies set forth in this Handbook are not intended to create a contract, either express or implied, and should not be construed to create or constitute contractual obligations of any kind.
No manager, supervisor, or employee of the Library has any authority to enter into an agreement for employment for any specified period of time or to make an agreement for employment other than at-will. Only the Library Board has the authority to make any such agreement and then only in writing.
This policy cannot be modified by any statements contained in this or any other employee handbooks, employment applications, library recruiting materials, library memorandums, or other materials provided to employees in connection with their employment. None of these documents, whether individually or combined, shall create neither an express or implied contract of employment for a definite period nor an express or implied contract concerning any terms or conditions of employment.
*Exception: Employees must have prior notice of reduction in hours and compensation before implementation (unless termination occurs).
