Employees of the Garnet A. Wilson Public Library of Pike County should be committed to serving the citizens of Pike County in a courteous and efficient manner.
Visiting with friends and acquaintances should be limited unless they are interacting as a patron.
Snacks may be eaten in the office area (cleanliness mandatory), but large meals should be eaten in the break room unless there is a lack of desk coverage.
Discussion of personal affairs must be limited as to not interfere with duties.
No tip, cash or gift card, may be accepted by an employee of the library for service during work. Letters of praise concerning staff or donations to the library are acceptable options for patrons to show gratitude.
Staff members should refrain from voicing critical comments regarding the library, library employees, Board of Trustees, or library patrons either within the library or without.
Employees are expected to be punctual on time when coming in to work. Employees should also remain at their workstations until relieved; communication with supervisor allows flexibility to this rule.
Employees shall take a 15-minute break for every three hours worked. After six hours worked, an employee is to take a 30-minute unpaid lunch break. The employee's lunch break should be uninterrupted. It is the employee's responsibility to inform co-workers that he/she is on lunchtime. Problems should be reported to the Director.
Political activity by all employees of the library is regulated by the Federal Hatch Act as it relates to state and local public employees. Employees of the library, therefore, may not engage in partisan political activity during working hours. Employees cannot utilize library vehicles, equipment, supplies, or facilities to influence the outcome of an election or further the cause of a political party or candidate. No funds of the library may be used on behalf of partisan politics. Staff schedules are prepared for a two-week period and are posted on the bulletin board in the staff lounge and sent to staff via email. Employees should initial their time upon arrival at work and note any change in their hours of work on this schedule.
Time cards are prepared for every employee and are housed in a notebook in the staff lounge. Employees should sign and mark all time worked in hours on their cards.
An employee wishing to resign in good standing must submit a letter of resignation to the Director. All employees, when possible, should give two weeks’ notice prior to their last day of work. A four-week notice for members of the management team is considered appropriate; however, the Director reserves the right to shorten the notice time. At the time of notice, all keys should be turned over to the Director.
