The image of the library is, at least in part, projected by the wearing apparel and appearance of staff members. It is therefore very important that all employees be well groomed and properly dressed. Clothing should be selected that is neither distracting to other staff members and patrons, nor unbefitting that of a professional employee. Following is the desired dress code for employees while at work.
Employees should be clean and well groomed.
Employee’s appearance should be that of a professional. Hair should be clean and in an appropriate style for a place of business. Clothing should also reflect a professional manner dependent on the roles of the staff.
Clothing should be clean, free of tears, holes, and obvious stains.
Blue jeans are allowed to be worn by maintenance, custodial, and pages. Denims in colors other than blue may be worn. Blue jeans may be worn casually on Fridays and Saturdays by all staff.
Shoes should be clean and appropriate for a public service environment.
Shorts may only be worn by employees in the event of outdoor activities to help combat high temperatures; shorts may not be excessively short.
Shirts with quotes not related to the library or reading are to be worn casually on Fridays and Saturdays. Clothing should not have messages that may be considered offensive.
Disciplinary action for violation to the dress code will be at the discretion of the Director, or staff member in charge in the absence of the Director.
